First post-marathon run

trade of plans final night time--no ice cream cone for me :(

while i used to be getting ready to take the men trunk-or-treating, I bundled up due to the fact final 12 months turned into freezing; then after I stepped outside, I idea, "Wow, it is now not bloodless!" and i took off all my layers, sporting only a hoodie and jeans rather. That changed into a big mistake.

We picked up my dad, and then went to the church. As quickly as I were given out of the car, I felt how windy and bloodless it became, and straight away wanted i might added all my layers with me. The longer we stayed, the less appealing ice cream became sounding. Eli's doughnut appeared certainly correct, and that i concept approximately getting one as an alternative, however at that point, I actually simply wanted to go home and sit down under my electric powered blanket.
He had powdered sugar all over himself after that (this photo was after he wiped a few off). Seeing him with the powdered sugar on his face jogged my memory of a photo I took a long term in the past, after the men were given into a container of baby powder whilst i used to be within the shower...
My whole dwelling room became protected in powder within the 10 minutes it took me to bathe. when I came out, Noah (who was three on the time), changed into the use of a towel to "easy it up" (examine: spread it round even more). They had been both covered in powder, and it became so humorous that I couldn't even be mad. I took pics and video :)

besides, i used to be too cold to even reflect onconsideration on ice cream, so I decided to simply keep the PointsPlus for some other day.

This morning, I did my first put up-marathon run. typically, I don't run on Sundays, but if my youngsters are not domestic, then sometimes I do shift things around. They stayed the night at my mother and father' house closing night time, so this morning, I got away from bed and dressed for the cold. It turned into inside the mid-30's, so I wore a long-sleeved blouse and i even determined to wear gloves.

A employer known as Zensah despatched me a pair of strolling gloves to study. They said that the fingertips have unique cloth that permits you to use put on them whilst the usage of a touch-screen device (iPod, iPhone, and so forth). I had no concept any such factor existed! I usually wear the amazing reasonably-priced $1 knit gloves, and then I should take them off whenever I need to the touch my iPod on a run.

i was skeptical that the gloves might absolutely paintings, so I attempted them out immediately when I got them inside the mail--and they worked! I concept maybe i might ought to attempt again and again once more to touch the equal button, or that there would be a not on time response (now that I kind that, I recognise that sounds sort of silly...) but the tips at the gloves worked as if I wasn't carrying gloves in any respect.

Magical fingertips (and thumb tip) for touch-screen
The gloves have been cozy to run in (I hate having sweaty fingers, however they didn't sense sweaty in these), and i really like how they appearance. My most effective criticism is the sizing. I measured my hand as informed, and ordered a medium, but they're bigger than I would really like. i really like gloves to in shape, well, like a glove--but those are unfastened, which you could see in the first photograph above. So if you are inquisitive about buying a few, i might order a size smaller than it measures.

even as i was walking, I observed that the thumb of the gloves is made from suede, which I notion became without a doubt unusual. I spent a good mile and a 1/2 trying to determine out what the cause of that became, but in no way did. Then as i used to be typing all this, I went to the description page, and it reads: "Micro suede thumb to wipe nose"... BAHAHA, I in no way might have guessed that is what the suede was for! genuinely going to strive that out next time ;)  (Disclosure: Zensah gave me a couple of the gloves without cost to check, but opinions are, as constantly, my own).

So anyway, that is the new schedule i am following (loosely) until the Ragnar Relay:

I say "loosely" following, due to the fact I rarely run 5 days per week. So I can be skipping runs here and there, or switching them round. however proper now, i am absolutely interested by strolling extra frequently, but much less mileage--shorter runs, but greater of them. we'll see how long that lasts ;)  also, the pace is only a tenet; i am no longer going to be strict with that, either. I made this agenda primarily based on Hal Higdon's Intermediate half-marathon training time table, including the paces primarily based on a running calculator app on my smartphone.

So these days changed into 3.five miles at a ten:24/mi pace. nearly as soon as I started out strolling, i was coughing. I concept my cold was getting better all week, due to the fact my head and congestion sense better; however even as i was walking, i was continuously coughing. top notch. however I managed to complete, and my legs felt amazing.
It became pretty windy, and it is presupposed to be actually windy all week, because of the typhoon at the east coast.

i'm a little concerned approximately my ride to NYC subsequent weekend getting canceled. Jennifer is caught in Florida (she went on a Disney cruise together with her circle of relatives, and was speculated to cross domestic today, however the flights had been canceled); when you consider that i am alleged to stay with her, i am no longer sure what's going to occur if she's now not home (or feeling up to a house visitor!). i am also questioning if my flight could be canceled besides, depending on how badly the big apple gets hit with the storm.

I realize those are just minor issues as compared to those who are having to cope with the storm (and its aftermath), so i am hoping it is now not as awful because it's predicted to be!
