Dehydrated

I went for another motorbike trip with my youngsters the day past morning in addition to this morning. despite the fact that we move noticeably slow and it's a little traumatic looking for cars (there aren't any sidewalks, so we ought to trip in the road), i've a lot fun. it's truly relaxing and exciting. that is what I imply by way of residing an active lifestyles. no longer always training for races and biking as fast as i will to get my heart charge up, however without a doubt playing myself while doing something apart from sitting on my ass!

I spent an awesome chew of the afternoon preparing a budget. now not amusing--however because i'm a math nerd, I surely was playing myself a bit ;)  a few years in the past whilst the economy got truly horrific, my husband's job reduce his hours manner returned and we essentially needed to stay off of a credit score card for some time. We went from zero debt to about $15,000 in credit card debt over a length of approximately 18 months. we've got considering the fact that stop the use of the credit score card, and my husbands hours are again to ordinary, but we haven't accomplished a lot to pay it down--paying most effective barely over the minimum each month. We do not have a number of cash; my husband is a laborer and i am a stay-at-domestic mother. but i am normally very frugal when it comes to spending money, so we control okay. however i was reading some blogs the day prior to this about paying down debt, and it in reality inspired me to work on paying ours down.

I went through our previous 2 months of bank statements and found out how plenty we spent and where it went. the majority of our spending is really on groceries. i used to be greatly surprised to see that we spent about $1,000 consistent with month on groceries! that does not consist of eating out, however we very, very rarely consume out. i will truly cut that lower back to approximately $500 per month, in all likelihood even less if i am getting genuinely innovative.

My older brother Brian is a pilot for Delta, and he is on call pretty regularly to go on remaining-minute journeys. they can name him and deliver him just a few hours be aware that he has to move on a ride somewhere, often for a few days at a time. because of this, he realized that he changed into throwing away lots of clean fruit and vegetables due to the fact he ought to purchase them one afternoon and then get called out on a journey rapidly after. So he sold a meals dehydrator and started dehydrating his end result and greens, making them clean to % to tackle trips with him. once I tried some of the dried fruit, i used to be really inspired with how accurate it became, so he sold a dehydrator for my own family. I, also, have a tendency to throw away lots of fresh fruit because we just don't get round to consuming it. So i'm going to make it a point to throw away as little food as feasible. I raided the fridge today, and sliced up 6 bananas, half of a bundle of strawberries, four kiwi end result, a peach, and an apple and positioned it inside the dehydrator. It takes quite a few time to prep everything, but it's worth it while you get to devour the dried end result!
right here is what it seems like prepped and geared up to dehydrate:
Layer #1

Layer #2

Layers 3 & 4

Layer #5
And this is what it looks like after dehydrating for about 5 hours:

This is a gallon-sized bag, and upright, it's only about 1/3 full
See how a whole lot fruit it takes to make a small amount of dried fruit?! I may want to consume that complete bag in one or  sittings, i am certain. It tastes so much higher than the dried fruit you purchase at the grocery shop. My favourite fruit to dehydrate is really starfruit. it is kind of highly-priced, so I rarely buy it, but it tastes exceptional and it looks cute inside the form of stars. So anyway, i'm going to be cutting way returned on prices and with a bit of luck getting actually creative in the kitchen.

What is one of your favorite super-cheap meals? Mine is probably my Taco fashion Lentils & Brown Rice. it's smooth, flexible and reasonably-priced, and my entire family loves it. also, do you have any ideas for what to do with stale bread? i'm constantly throwing away half a loaf of bread (or pitas or english truffles, and so forth.) maybe I may want to make French toast as soon as per week
